Earl’s Court Station: – Lifts 3 & 4 – Civils Work

Project: Earl’s Court Station – Lifts 3 & 4 – Civils Work

Client: London Underground Limited – Capital Programmes Directorate

Works Value: £58,000

The existing steelwork within the Counterweight Shaft required refurbishment as contained surface corrosion.  The Counterweight Shaft is designated as a confined space.  Using trained staff and working in accordance with a Safe System of Work, confined space procedures were applied for our task which was to remove the surface corrosion by mechanical means and prepare steelwork ready for a paint protection system, of which was applied in three separate, self coloured layers to a finish.  Works were carried out from a fixed scaffold within the 17M vertical length shaft.

Following on is the Lift Shaft steelwork strengthening.  Our task was to install new steelwork from the existing lift car frame transversely fixed to the shaft tunnel rings, to provide strength and integrity ready for new lift installation.
