Escalators 1&3 at Chancery Lane Station required replacing under the L&E Framework. DDR were contracted with both the civil & premises aspects of the project, and works were carried out over three phases and three Station Closures as follows:
Phase I & II
Carry out survey works in form of pull out tests, core cutting & crushing tests, and ground penetrating radar scan to Escalators 1&3 UMC & LMC.
Install permanent structural steelwork propping to support underside of existing Upper & Lower Concourse floor slabs above Escalator 1&3 UMC & LMC.
Drill, burst and break out redundant concrete support plinths and motor base plinth to Escalator 1&3 UMC & LMC.
Set out to specified 12° & 30° and saw cut and break out redundant concrete support plinths to Escalator 1 Incline.
Demolition of existing concrete slab, and removal of redundant steel beams within Upper Concourse floor slab.
Installation of new structural support steelwork within Escalators 1&3 UMC & LMC ready for new Upper & Lower Concourse floor slabs.
Installation of new structural support steelwork within Escalators 1&3 UMC, LMC & Incline ready for escalator.
Undertake a level survey of newly installed structural steelwork for tolerance checks.
Installation of holorib decking, reinforcement and concrete to form new Upper & Lower Concourse floor slabs.
Infill existing UMC access steps with reinforcement and concrete, and form new relocated UMC access with reinforcement and concrete.
Installation of pulling point brackets and lifting eye, including pull testing and certification ready for new escalator installation contractor.
Replacement of existing Escalator UMC & LMC floor drainage with new.
Phase III
Paint stair risers and nosings including anti-slip aggregate to Central Staircase.
Paint remaining walls and plinths to Escalators 1&3 UMC, Incline & LMC.
Paint floors including anti-slip aggregate to Escalators 1&3 UMC & LMC.
Paint hazard defining warning lines to floors of Escalators 1&3 UMC & LMC.
Paint safe walkway throughout Escalators 1&3 UMC to avoid potential head clash with low obstructions.
Paint stair nosings including anti-slip aggregate to Escalators 1&3 Incline.
Paint existing structural steel works within Escalators 1&3 UMC & LMC.
Paint existing access/egress ladders to Escalator 1 UMC & LMC.
Installation of Kee Klamp handrail system to plinths within Escalators 1&3 UMC.
Installation of safe storage decking and handrail system for new escalator maintenance barriers with UMC Entrance Lobby.
Installation of self-closing safety gate at top of existing access/egress ladder to UMC Entrance Lobby.
Installation of Health & Safety signage to Escalators 1&3 UMC & LMC.
Station Closures
Installation of new floor tray frames to Upper Concourse.
Replacement of existing floor tiling with new including movement joints to new finish floor levels set following installation of new escalators by others.
Wall tile repairs to Upper & Lower Concourse.
Lay new non-slip resin flooring system to Lower Concourse.
Lay new non-slip resin flooring system to Booking Hall at location of existing Gate Line.
Paint passenger side facing soffit high level to Upper Concourse, Escalators 1&3, and Lower Concourse.
