Project: Oxford Circus – Staircase Works
Client: TLL-BCV
Works Value: £205,000
Our task was to replace 332no. non-compliant treads over 7no. staircases on Levels 1, 5 & 6 of the Station with new compliant non-slip AATi pieces. These works involved removal of existing nosings, repairs to existing substrate with Ardex products, drilling into existing substrate for new fixing positions and installation of new nosing tread plates to a finish. Any existing damaged floor tiles on stair treads were cut out and replaced with new as required.
We were also tasked to re-level non-compliant flooring within Passage 7/207 that links both Central Line Platforms 1&2. These works involved breaking out of existing paviours, screed and reinforcement down to existing structural slab level, setting new floor levels with a rapid strength bedding mortar, then laying new paviours and corduroy tiles to compliant levels set off existing staircase to achieve bottom riser height of 150mm.
Works to the above areas were undertaken during Extended Engineering Hours whilst the Station was still operational until Engineering Hours. This was achieved by applying protective measures to enable safety of TfL customers whilst works were being undertaken. To ensure that the floor areas were made safe into Traffic Hours temporary flooring was laid and fixed into position and the Station was once again operational for the Central Line.
